 Village Stitches Groovy Girlfriend Earwarmer

Materials:  1 skein Cascade 128 Superwash

Gauge:  3.5 sts per inch in stockinette

Needle:  US size 10 or size needed to obtain gauge

Crochet hook:  J (6mm)

Finished dimensions:  width of body of earwarmer  4 inches; total length 18 inches

 Tab:

Cast on 7 stitches.

Garter stitch (knit all rows) for  7 rows or approximately 1 inch.

 Body:

You will knit the first two and last two stitches of every row for garter stitch edge.

Begin increases on what will be the knit (right) side: 

Row 1:  K2, m1, K1, m1, K1, m1, K1, m1,  K2 (11 sts)

Row 2 and all wrong side rows of increase section :  K2, purl to last 2 sts, K2

Row 3:  K2, m1, K3, m1, K1, m1, K3, m1, K2 (15 sts)

Row 5:  K2, m1, K5, m1, K1, m1, K5, m1, K2 (19 sts)

Row 7: K2, m1, K7, m1, k1, m1, K7, m1, K2 (23 sts) 

Next row:  K2, purl to last 2 sts., K2

Begin K1 P1 rib:  K2, *P1, K1* repeat from * to last 2 sts, K2

Continue ribbing  (with K2 edge)  until piece measures 15 inches from cast on edge.

Begin decreases on right side:

Row 1:  K2, SSK, K5, SSK, K1, K2tog, K5, K2tog (19 sts)

Row 2 and all wrong side rows of decrease section:  K2, purl to last 2 sts, k2

Row 3: K2, SSK, K3, SSK, K1, K2tog, K3, K2tog, K2 (15 sts)

Row 5:  K2, SSK, K1, SSK, K1, K2tog, K1, K2tog, K2 (11 sts)

Row 7:  K2, SSK, K3, K2tog, K2 (9 sts)

Row 9:  K2, SSK, K1, K2tog, K2 (7 sts)

Next  Row: K 7

 

 Button Hole Tab: 

Row 1 and 2: knit

Row 3:  K3, YO, K2tog, K2

Row 4:  Knit, knitting into the back of the YO to create button hole

Row 5 and 6: knit

Bind off

 Crochet Flower

Rnd 1:  ch 2, 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook.  Join with sl st to first sc

Rnd 2:  [(ch 2, 3dc, ch 2, sl st) in the same sc, sl st to the next sc], 5 times making 5 petals

Adding rows of petals: 

Sc into the sc that is between and behind  the petals, ch5.  Do this 4 more times creating a loop behind each petal. Join with sl st to first sc.  For each petal:   *ch 1, 9 dc in the loop, ch 1, sl st in the next sc*  repeat  from * 4 more times for a total of 5 petals with 9 double crochet each.

Next row of petals:  sc into the sc that is between and behind the petals, ch 6.  Do this 4 more times creating a loop behind each petal.  Join with sl st to first sc.  For each petal:  *ch 1, 11 dc in the loop, ch 1, sl st in the next sc*  repeat from * 4 more times for a total of 5 petals with 11 double crochet each.
